چکیده
Abstract Aim Sternal wound infection (SWI) has always been a significant risk in patients who undergo sternotomies as part of their cardiac surgical procedures. Computed tomography (CT) imaging is often used to diagnose and assess sternal infections. Its purpose includes identifying locating any dehiscence. Method A systematic literature review across PubMed, Embase Ovid was performed according PRISMA guidelines identify relevant articles that discussed the utility CT scanning for SWI, common features identified, patient outcomes sensitivity/specificity (Figure 1). Results 25 papers were included. 100% (n = 25) published peer-reviewed journals. scans SWIs can be seen beneficial aid diagnosing well determining components infection. Commonalities identified such fluid collection mediastinum, free gas, pleural effusions, dehiscence which point towards Conclusions novel emerging methodology SWI post-sternotomy complications; hence, increased research required expand on this area create cut-offs or signs radiology professionals determine extent

Bimodal magnetic resonance imaging-computed tomography nanoprobes: A Review
Bimodal imaging combines two imaging modalities in order to benefit from their advantages and compensate the limitations of each modality. This technique could accurately detect diseases for diagnostic purposes. Nanoparticles simultaneously offer diagnostic data via various imaging modalities owing to their unique properties. Moreover, bimodal nanoprobes could be incorporated into theranostic s...

متن کاملNegative pressure wound therapy for the treatment of sternal wound infections after cardiac surgery.
We retrospectively collected and analysed data from patients with sternal wound infections between 1995 and 2001, which were treated with different wound management strategies, and compared them with our patients from 2002 to 2011, who were treated with the sternal negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT). From 1995 to 2001, a total of 198 patients (group A) with a mean age of 65 ± 10 years devel...
متن کاملNegative-pressure wound therapy for deep sternal wound infections reduces the rate of surgical interventions for early re-infections.
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the outcome of treatment for deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) in a nationwide patient cohort, before and after the introduction of negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT). METHODS This was a population-based cohort of all patients treated for DSWI in Iceland out of 2446 open heart operations performed between 2000 and 2010. Length of hospital stay, survival and reoper...
